Udita Tyagi was born in a family of educators’ in the Garhmukteshwar district of Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Shri M.C. Tyagi, served as a principal in a school while her mother ran a small school to teach the not-so-privileged kids from the nearby areas.

Her father had instilled in her the importance of education and compassion towards the society right from her childhood days. Being born in a small city, Udita faced various hardships and closely saw a brutal face of society at a tender age, something that people rarely get to see. Udita felt sympathy for the poor and underprivileged. It was the result of Udita’s strong brought up and the values implanted by parents that she felt a strong desire to serve the people and do something worthwhile for society. Blessed with an active brain and strong mental power, Udita decided to pursue science field and completed BSc and MSc from her hometown.

Like all Indian girls, Udita too tied the knot in the year 1999 with Architect Yogesh Tyagi and moved to Ghaziabad.

Contrary to popular beliefs that the journey of a girl’s life kind of pauses after marriage, it proved to be just the opposiin Udita’s case. Udita's life journey got faster and more exciting after marriage. She completed her B.Ed and started teaching in school to fulfill her dreams of spreading awareness about the importance of education. In the year 2009, right in the middle of her teaching career, Udita received her Ph.D. in Chemistry.

But Udita wasn’t done yet. She wanted to do more and achieve more, and this desire kept inspiring her to move forward. She had everything that called for a comfortable, or luxurious, life – good education, stable job, and a supportive family. But Udita’s mind was restless- she wanted to be seen as an inspiration for the society.

In the year 2011, Udita was named Mrs. Indisar worldwide first runner-up. In the year 2012, in the Mrs. India International pageant organized in the city of Atlanta in the United States, Udita begged the Mrs. Congeniality award. Those are just two of several moments when Udita made her sons- Srijan and Saksham, her family and the entire society take notice and feel proud of her.

However, even after achieving such huge milestones, Udita didn’t give up. She strived for more recognition and a sense of accomplishment. As a teacher, the work she did make her aware of the problems related to education in our society. After she understood the ground issues, it became difficult for her to ignore them and to submit to them.

Udita, who always keep the society and the country on a pedestrian, felt restless by these problems. Instead of succumbing to these problems, and in an attempt to take the bull by the horn, she laid the foundation of CS Disha, a non-governmental organization.

Founded in the year 2009, the primary aim of CS Disha to build a cleaner and safer environment for future generations. There is no denying the fact that the absence of social consciousness or awareness is the leading cause of the lack of social responsibility.

This lack of social awareness reflects in the form of lack of hygiene in our cities. And, the lack of hygiene plays an integral role in spreading diseases. Udita, instead of crying over the problems, took the ownership of spreading social awareness about the importance of hygiene through her foundation CS Disha.

Through My Clean India campaign, Udita created awareness for cleanliness in 35 cities. And soon the wave turned into a spontaneous mass movement. A new turn in the campaign came when Dr. Udita Tyagi was invited by Shri Narendra Modi Ji to discuss her cleanliness drive in a program called ‘chai pe charcha.’ Shri Narendra Modi Ji was very impressed with the campaign and how it is changing people’s attitude towards cleanliness.

One of the many achievements of My Clean India campaign was that it motivated the government to undertake a cleanliness drive and launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 2nd October 2014.

In addition to running a cleanliness campaign, CS Disha is also working in the field of solid waste management. Educating people on the importance and the right ways to manage solid waste is important because most citizens are still unaware of industrial hazards. Udita keeps educating people about the rising dangers of lifestyle hazards and the related impact that economic growth has on our lifestyle.

Through CS Disha, Udita is also looking towards vocational education. Udita believes that if women empowerment is to be talked about, it cannot be fulfilled only by naming a few people. Women empowerment cannot be confined to just one section of society because every woman is contributing substantially. This is the reason Udita wants to empower women in every section of society and equip them with professional education even for the smallest of jobs.

In addition to her cleanliness and women empowerment campaigns, Udita has also undertaken campaigns to motivate children into playing an integral role in cleanliness and tree plantation drives. Udita believes that good habits like cleanliness should be developed from childhood. Udita also provides resources to CS Disha to perform such activities.

One of the most important tasks undertaken by Udita through CS Disha is youth empowerment. Merely grabbing employment cannot be considered a symbol of empowerment. Udita wants to empower the youth so that they are capable of speaking their minds and doing what they feel is ethical. She wants to make the youth aware of every social issue. She follows the preaching of Swami Vivekananda in which he explains that the essential element of a nation’s strength is its youth.

उदिता त्यागी का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के गढ़मुक्तेश्वर जिले में एक शिक्षक परिवार में हुआ था। पिता एम सी त्यागी एक विद्यालय में प्रिंसीपल थे तो वहीं मां हरिजन बस्ती में अपना एक विद्यालय चलाती थीं। पिता के प्रिंसीपल होने के कारण उदिता त्यागी में बचपन से ही शिक्षा तथा समाज के प्रति संवेदना थी। छोटे शहर में रहने के कारण उदिता ने समाज के उस वर्ग की परेशानियों को बहुत ही नजदीक से देखाए जहां पर लोगों की नजर बहुत कम जाती है। उदिता बचपन से ही लोगों के दर्द से द्रवित हो जाया करती थीं। बचपन के कई किस्सों में उनकी परिपक्व समझ नजर आती है। 

शिक्षक के परिवार में पालन पोषण होने के कारण उदिता में कई मूल्यों का संचार भी हो रहा था। इन्ही मूल्यों का प्रभाव था कि उदिता का रूझान आरंभ से कुछ ऐसा करने के प्रति लालायित रहा जिससे वह समाज के प्रति कुछ सार्थक कर पाएं। कुशाग्र बुद्धि की स्वामिनी उदिता ने अपनी शिक्षा के लिए विज्ञान के क्षेत्र को चुना तथा अपने शहर से बीएससी तथा एमएससी की उपाधि ली।

तमाम भारतीय लड़कियों की ही तरह उदिता को भी जल्द ही परिणयसूत्र में बंधना पड़ा तथा उनका विवाह गाजियाबाद के आर्कीटेक्ट योगेश त्यागी के साथ वर्ष 1999 में हुआ। 

जहां एक तरफ यह अवधारणा है कि लड़कियों की जिंदगी का सफर शादी के बाद रूक जाता हैए वही उदिता के मामले में यह एकदम विपरीत साबित हुआ। उदिता की जिंदगी का सफर शादी के बाद और भी तेजी से बढ़ा तथा उन्होनें समाज में शिक्षा का प्रचार करने के अपने सपने को पूरा करने के लिए बीएड किया व स्कूल मे पढ़ाना शुरू किया। पढ़ाते पढ़ाते ही उन्होनें वर्ष 2009 में केमिस्ट्री में पीएचडी की डिग्री प्राप्त की। 

पर उदिता के मन में बहुत कुछ करने की ललक थी और यह ललक उन्हें निरंतर आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रेरित कर रही थीं। उनके पास सब कुछ था जो कि एक सुविधाजनक जीवन जीने के लिए पर्याप्त थाए जैसे एक अच्छी डिग्री अच्छी नौकरी और एक परिवार। पर समाज के लिए एक प्रेरणा बनने का सपना लिए उदिता का मन बेचैन था। 

वर्ष 2011 में उन्होनें मिसेज इंडिया वर्ल्ड वाइड फर्स्ट  रनर अप का खिताब अपने नाम किया तथा अमेरिका मे अटलांटा शहर में 25 मई 2012 को आयोजित मिसेज इंडिया इंटरनेश्नल में मिसेज कंजेनियलिटी का खिताब अपने नाम किया और अपने दोनो बच्चों सृजन व सक्षम के साथ पूरे समाज व परिवार को गर्व करने का एक और मौका दिया। 

हालांकि उपलब्धियों में मील का पत्थर हासिल करने के बाद भी उदिता चैन से नहीं बैठीं। एक शिक्षक होने के नाते उन्होने जो काम किया था उनसे उन्हें शिक्षा तथा समाज के प्रति समस्याओं की समझ उत्पन्न हुई। उदिता में जमीनी मुद्दो को समझने की समझ हैए यही कारण है कि वह इन समस्याओ को सिर उठाते देखकर चुप नही रह सकीं। हमेशा ही समाज को सर्वप्रथम रखने वाली उदिता का मन इन सभी समस्याओं को देखकर बहुत ही विचलित होता रहता था। उन्होनें इन समस्याओं की चुनौतियों के आगे घुटने टेकने के स्थान पर इनसे दो दो हाथ करने का प्रण लिया। तथा एक गैर सरकारी संगठन सीएस दिशा की नींव डाली। 

वर्ष 2009 में स्थापित इस गैर सरकारी संगठन का उद्देश्य है आने वाली पीढ़ियो के लिए एक सुरक्षित तथा साफ कल बनाना। इस बात से कोई इंकार नहीं कर सकता है कि हममें कहीं न कहीं सामाजिक चेतना की कमी के कारण सामाजिक बोध नहीं हैं। इसी सामाजिक बोध की कमी के चलते न केवल  समाज मे कई बीमारियां फैल रहीं हैं क्योंकि सफाई जैसी मूलभूत आदतों की कहीं न कहीं कमी है। परंतु उदिता ने केवल समस्याओं पर ध्यान न देकर समस्याओं के हल पर बात की और उनके फांडेशन ने सफाई के लिए प्रेरित करने के लिए एक अभियान हाथ में लिया। उदिता त्यागी ने माई क्लीन इंडिया अभियान के माध्यम से 35 शहरों में सफाई के लिए जागरूकता पैदा की। और देखते ही देखते यह स्वतः स्फूर्त जन आंदोलन में बदल गया। इस अभियान में एक नया मोड़ तब आया जब डाॅ उदिता त्यागी को प्रधानमंत्री पद के उम्मीदवार श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के द्वारा चाय पर चर्चा के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया। श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी इस अभियान से बहुत ही प्रभावित थे।
 
माई क्लीन इंडिया की सबसे बड़ी सफलता यह रही कि इसने 2014 मे सरकार को स्वच्छता अभियान चलाने के लिए प्रेरित किया व 2 अक्टूबर 2014 को उन्होनें स्वच्छ भारत अभियान की शुरूआत की।  

सीएस दिशा सफाई अभियान के साथ साथ साॅलिड अपशिष्ट प्रबंधन के क्षेत्र में भी काम कर रहा है। उदिता का यह कार्य इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि आज लोगों को औद्योगिकए खतरनाक खतरों के बारे में पता नहीं है। लोगों को जीवनशैली के बढ़ते खतरों तथा आर्थिक विकास के कारण होने वाले खतरों के बारे में उदिता जागरूक करती रहती हैं। 

सीएस दिशा के माध्यम से उदिता व्यावसायिक शिक्षा की तरफ भी ध्यान दे रही हैं। उदिता इस बात को मानती हैं कि यदि महिला सशक्तिकरण की बात करनी है तो वह केवल कुछ लोगों का नाम लेकर ही पूरी नहीं हो सकती है क्योंकि महिलाओं का सशक्तिकरण महज एक वर्ग तक ही सीमित नहीं है बल्कि हर महिला कुछ न कुछ कर ही रही है। यही कारण है कि उदिता समाज के हर वर्ग की महिला को सशक्त बनाना चाहती हैं व उनके लिए छोटे छोटे पेशो के लिए भी पेशेवर शिक्षा प्रदान करना चाहती हैं। 

इसके साथ ही उदिता बच्चों मे भी सफाई अभियान को प्रेरित करने के लिए तरह तरह के अभियान चलाती हैं जैसे कि पेड़ लगाना सफाई रखना आदि। उदिता का मानना है कि सफाई जैसी आदतो का विकास बच्चो में बचपन से ही होना चाहिए। तथा सीएस दिशा के माध्यम से इन गतिविधियों को करने के लिए उदिता संसाधन भी प्रदान करती हैं। 

सीएस दिशा के माध्यम से उदिता का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कार्य है युवाओं का सशक्तिकरण। महज नौकरी मिलना ही सशक्तिकरण का प्रतीक नहीं माना जा सकता है। उदिता युवाओं में वह शक्ति देना चाहती हैं जिससे युवा अपने मन का कार्य कर सकें। वह युवाओं को हर मुद्दे पर जागरूक बनाना चाहती हैं, वह स्वामी विवेकानन्द के इस सिद्धांत को पूरी तरह से अमल में लाती दिखती हैं जिसमें वह युवा शक्ति को देश के निर्माण के लिए सबसे आवश्यक तत्व बताते हैं।
